At the end of 2003 Erik obtained the degree B.Mus (cum laude) from the University of Stellenbosch, where he was also awarded Academic Honours following his academic achievement. In July 2007 he was awarded a MMus in Advanced Performance (with distinction) by the Royal College of Music, London and in July 2008 he obtained an Artist Diploma in Performance from the RCM studying under Jane Chapman (harpsichord) and Geoffrey Govier (fortepiano). He was financially supported by the Richard Carne and Ruth Dyson Awards. Erik has appeared as organ soloist with some of the major South African orchestras and won several important South African music competitions, including the Sixth UNISA National Organ Competition (2001), the ABSA National Youth Music Competition (2000), the ATKV Muziq Competition (2002), the UNISA Overseas Music Bursary Competition (2003) and the Mabel Quick Overseas Bursary Competition (2004). He has played in various important early music fesivals such as the Greenwich Early music Festival, the London Handel Festival and the Brighton Early Music Festival. As harpsichord soloist Erik has appeared several times with the RCM Baroque Orchestra. As orchestral continuo player he has played under Sir Charles Mackerras (Mozart – Mass in C minor), Adrian Butterfield (Rameau – Pigmallion) and Michael Rosewell (Monteverdi - L’incoronazione de Poppea). Erik is a permanent member of the period ensemble Melopoetica, with which he has toured to Sweden, Austria and South Africa, and the Baroque group Ensemble Amaranthos, who were finalists in the 2007 York Early Music Competition. Erik regularly gives solo harpsichord recitals – including a recital for the British Harpsichord Society in 2008 and a recital in St. Martin-in-the-Fields. He has broadcast for BBC Radio 3. In 2006 and 2008 Erik was the winner of the RCM Early Music Competition and in May 2007 he was given Honourable Mention at the 8th Broadwood Harpsichord Competition. During the 7th London Handel Singing Competition in March 2008 he was awarded the Accompanist’s Prize. Erik is also a member of the group, Musici Infatagabili, who won the Broadwood Early Keyboard Ensemble Competition held at Fenton House, Hampstead during May 2008. Future engagements include concerts in St John’s, Smith Square, London and the Russell Collection in Edinburgh. From September 2008 Erik is appointed as Junior Fellow at the Royal College of Music.
