François Arzul was born in Cape Town, where he received his schooling. After matriculating
with distinctions in both piano and violin, he began his studies at The University
of Stellenbosch where he graduated with a Performer's Licentiate (violin) in 1994
under Professor Jack de Wet. He then moved to Johannesburg where he continued his
studies at Wits University under Zanta Hoffmeyr. In just 2 years, he completed his
B. Mus with honours and immediately took up a position as first violin in The National
Symphony Orchestra. François continued to live in Johannesburg for a total of 8
years where he enjoyed playing chamber music with some of the country's top musicians,
as well as various orchestral groups.

In 2003 he made the decision to move back to Cape Town, where he now lives. Although
he continues to play part time in The Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, he enjoys spending
more time playing together with other musicians in a more intimate format.
