Quentin Crida is the founder and leader of the group, Camerata Tinta Barocca. Born
in Cape Town in 1971, he started playing the violin at age seven, first with Tamara
Rennie, and then with Josephine Minicki. While at Fish Hoek Senior High, he joined
the Beau Soleil Music Centre and was taught by Brendan Lassak.

|
In 1994 he completed a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Cape Town,
where his teacher was Jurgen Schwietering. During his time at UCT he played as an
extra in the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra. On completing his studies, he left South
Africa for the United Kingdom. While there, he took lessons with David Juritz, Gina
Beukes, and Krzysztof Smietana.

Living in London for four years, he freelanced in a number of different genres,
playing for Pop music sessions and concerts, film soundtracks, chamber and symphony
orchestras. He toured the UK extensively with the Mozart Festival Orchestra, and
in northern France with Primavera Chamber Orchestra.

|
Film soundtracks included "Tomorrow Never Dies", "Joan of Arc", "The Twelve Monkeys",
and many more. He also played in live concerts with amongst others, Eric Clapton,
Bon Jovi, Seal, and Rod Stewart.

On returning to South Africa in 1999, he joined the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra
and shortly afterwards toured Chile and Argentina with the Cape Town String Quartet.
At the opening of the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra in 2001, he joined the first violin
section, becoming the Deputy Concertmaster in July of that year. In January 2005,
he resigned from that position to take up a freelance career once more.

Since then, apart from Camerata Tinta Barocca, he has led the second violin section
of the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra and been concertmaster of the Eastern
Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as playing in the Chamber Orchestra of South
Africa.
